What Is Crowns & Bridges?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth entirely, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. A dental bridge uses one or more crowns on adjacent teeth as anchors to "bridge" the gap left by a missing tooth.
At Akaay Dental Care, we fabricate crowns and bridges from high-quality ceramic, zirconia, or porcelain-fused-to-metal materials. Modern CAD/CAM technology allows for precise fitting, natural aesthetics, and remarkable durability.
When Do You Need It?
Crowns are recommended when:
A tooth is severely decayed or too damaged for a filling
After root canal treatment to protect the weakened tooth
A tooth is cracked or fractured
You have a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth affecting your smile
Bridges are recommended when:
One or more adjacent teeth are missing
You prefer a fixed (non-removable) alternative to dentures
The neighbouring teeth are healthy enough to serve as bridge supports
The Procedure - Step by Step
A comprehensive examination with X-rays determines whether a crown or bridge is the best solution.
The tooth (or teeth) receiving the crown is gently shaped and reduced in size to accommodate the crown thickness.
Precise digital or traditional impressions are taken and sent to a certified dental laboratory.
A temporary crown is placed to protect the prepared tooth while the permanent restoration is fabricated (usually 5–7 days).
At your second appointment, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is checked for fit, bite, and colour match.
The crown or bridge is permanently cemented in place for a natural-looking, secure fit.
Benefits
Fully restores chewing function and bite alignment
Natural-looking ceramic or zirconia blends perfectly with your smile
Bridges fill gaps without surgery - a fixed, non-removable solution
Prevents remaining teeth from drifting into the gap
Long-lasting: properly cared-for crowns can last 10–15 years or more
Protects root-canal-treated teeth from fracture
Aftercare Tips
- Avoid very hard or sticky foods for the first few days after cementation.
- Brush and floss normally; use a floss threader to clean under bridge pontics.
- Use a nightguard if you grind your teeth.
- Schedule check-ups every 6 months so your dentist can monitor the margins of the crown.
